Principal's Message

Hello Ocean View Community. I am so proud to be the principal at Ocean View, and it is a privilege to partner with you in educating our dolphins! If you are new to Ocean View, I extend you a warm welcome, and I eagerly anticipate meeting you and your family in person soon.

Ocean View is truly an excellent school with amazing teachers, staff, and parents who work together to support every child.  We will continue to provide a well-rounded, asset-based education that builds upon students’ passions, gifts, and talents.  We are committed to a safe school environment where student’s social and emotional health is supported, and students can grow and thrive in a positive school climate.  I do not doubt that our students will make an impact both now and in the future as they grow in curiosity and creativity, take responsible risks, embrace diversity, and practice empathy.

As a result of many years of hard work, the United States selected Ocean View as a 2023 National Blue Ribbon SchoolU.S. News & World Report selected Ocean View as a 2022 Best Elementary School Award Winner, California selected Ocean View as a California Distinguished School and California Business for Education Excellence named Ocean View as an Honor Roll School multiple times.  We are so proud!

As your principal, I am committed to working together to provide every child with the best education and school experience. I believe in an open-door policy and encourage you to reach out whenever you have questions or want to collaborate. I look forward to getting to know every family more and building positive relationships.  Regularly checking on your child's progress is very important. It will help you notice strengths and find areas that need strengthening. Talk to your child daily about what he/she does in the classroom and on the playground. If you have concerns or questions, don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher. The school's phone number is (562) 907-6400. Reading my weekly email on Sundays at 6:00 pm will keep you updated on all the OV happenings!

In addition, prompt and consistent attendance is a necessary and important component of your child’s education. To help us provide your child with the best education possible, please avoid being absent unless absolutely necessary. If your child is absent, either call the school attendance line at (562) 907-6399 to report the illness or send a note on your child’s first day back.

I look forward to continuing to support the greatness that exists at Ocean View.  Thank you for your continued support of our school and staff. If you want to get more involved, join the PTA, volunteer at school activities, and actively participate in your child’s education. Here’s to a fantastic year of growth and success.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. (562) 907-6400

Respectfully Yours,

Kim Songer
